Peter Griffith was born in 1951 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, and was educated at Cranleigh School. After an Honours degree (English language and literature) at the University of Durham he gained a Postgraduate training in drama and education at Leeds University, and a Licentiateship of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He worked for five years as a drama teacher, after which he has had thirty years of professional experience as an actor, theatrical director, playwright, and singer.
In 1978 Peter Griffith founded White Horse Theatre and has been since then its artistic director. He is married to a psychologist and lives with his wife and two sons in Soest, Westphalia (Germany). He has written over 50 plays for the company and directed more than 80 productions. Furthermore he is the author of two published books on educational theatre.
Peter Griffith also has many years' experience of running theatre workshops and seminars on the use of drama in teaching – including frequent in-service training courses for German teachers, and the directing of workshops and devised productions in the Bochumer Schauspielhaus in Germany.
